NUMI blossoms tea and my 43rd birthday

For my birthday I let my nephew pick out a Numi flowering/blooming tea.  He had a blast choosing the bloom. He went with Sunset Oolong - Oolong tea leaves and Lily flower have a nutty richness highlighted by peach.
Then kyle watched it bloom.  With blooming tea you can get 5 or 6 cups of tea.

Enjoying fondu with my family as my birthday treat!!  And moms amazing elderberry pie!

Kyle tried the tea, but he wasn't thrilled with it.  But he did enjoy watching it bloom.

Love these boys!  Happy to spend time with them!!!πŸŽ‚☕️πŸŽ‚☕️πŸŽ‚

I got this box of blooming teas at the Massillon Discount Center for $12.99.   I got the cute chest, blooms, and glass tea pot.  On Amazon it sells for $34.99

scones- a flop!!!!! but, not because of the reciepe

I thought I would make these wonderful scones to take to a friends house.  I thought I would use some whole wheat flour instead of regular flour.  (it might have even been Whole Wheat Pastry Flour- still I do not recommend it!) BIG MISTAKE!!!  They were awful!!!

But when done right, the scones should look like this:
 Lemon Blueberry Drop Scones

1C whole wheat pastry flour
... 1C flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp grated lemon peel
1/4 tsp salt
1C Vanilla yogurt
1 T lemon juice
1 egg
1/4 C butter, melted
1 C fresh or frozen blueberries

glaze
1/2 C confectioner's sugar
1T lemon juice
1/2 tsp grated lemon peel

in a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. In another bowl, combine yogurt, egg, and butter. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in blueberries. Drop by heaping tablespoons 2 inches apart onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-18 minutes or until lightly browned. Combine glaze ingredients; drizzle over warm scones.

Note to self- Follow the recipe!!!!!!  Do not alter! What a waste of time and ingredients.

I'm enjoying green tea....

I'm stuck at home with contagious bronchitis ... Only good news I see here is I can drink all the tea I want.  I know I can do that on any day I want- but now I know it's help to getting me better sooner!!
Tonight I'm enjoying a pearl jasmine tea from The Coffee Bean and Tea Company.
http://www.coffeebean.com/
from the website:
Can making tea be a labor of love? Consider our Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearl. To create this tea we take two beautiful young Chinese green tea leaves and one plump bud, then roll them together into a large tight pearl packed with flavor. As night falls we scent the pearls with the fragrance of Jasmine flowers seven times during a single evening.
*Note- this tea online sells for $20.79.  Thankfully I picked it up at the Discount Outlet in Massillon for $3.49!!!!  WHAT A SAVINGS!!!!!!!!  Discounts shops are a great place to buy teas...just check the expiration date.

All of these green teas are really good!  Remember two important things when making green tea.  First- don't boil the water.  Second- don't steep green too long.

Shy Cellar Bigelow Pomegrante

My office Christmas party took us to Shy Cellars in Strasburg, Ohio.  I took my mom as my date.  It started off with fondu and flat bread pizzas.  Amazingly good!!
Soup was a roasted cauliflower soup that was sooo yummy!
With my meal I decided on Bigelow  Pomegranate black tea.  It was okay, nothing great, but okay.  They did not have a lot of tea choices- I wish I had something stashed in my purse.
Then we had an amazing salad.  I could have been done there- but there was more to come.
Mahi Mahi with asparagus was delicious with a sauce that was incredible.
Then the best thing of the evening was bread pudding with ice cream.  They say that this bread pudding makes Amish woman cry.  And it was that good!!!!  I could have eaten that pudding all night and all day the next day.
So I'd say go to Shy Cellars- but bring your own teaπŸ˜€
