Day 8- road trip full of fun, food, and tea.
**Favorite Meal of the trip**
We drove about two hours to Rwandz. Rawanduz, a town in Iraqi Kurdistan. It was breathtaking. The mountains were gorgeous.
We saw tea sellers along the way. I loved it!
This man looked like he was just getting set up.
We bought these beautiful flowers from a boy along the road who was selling them.
I don't think I ever saw Mountains like this in my life.
I read that the Rawanduz Gorge is often compared the Grand Canyon in the US. It also has the nickname of little Switzerland. This city is near the border of Iran and Turley.
Rwandz is surrounded by mountains: Korek Mountain to the south- this is where we headed next. Hindren Mountain to the north, Zozik Mountain to the west of Rawanduz, and Bradasot Mountain to the east.
Nani Bayani Meer - Meer breakfast
Right off Soran-Rawandiz Road
We got to the restaurant and there were these cute little outdoor covered tables where people could eat too.
Here is the restaurant.
We walked into this small restaurant and in the middle was this stove that was heating the restaurant and the water for tea!!!
I loved serving tea for the three of us. This is a Turkish Teapot. The hot water is big kettle on the bottom, the tea is in the little teapot on top. You will the teacup about 3/4 full with tea and then the rest of the cup with hot water...this is the way Kurdish Tea is served too (As well as Russian Tea).
And look at this view behind me!!
The tea was a black tea like I have been having all week. I am loving it.
Check out this beautifully etched teapot. It is art.
It is sitting on a gold stand that has a burner in it to keep the tea hot.
Really $5.33 a person!!! 5 or 6 kinds of cheese- yes please!! Date syrup, cheese, cheese with , honey, cheese, cheese, Tahin, strawberry jam, naan, baguettes, stewed tomatoes, fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, scrambled eggs, soup, fruit, another plate of 3-4 cheeses, another cheese, bread and Nutella, walnuts, mixed nuts, green and black olives, figs, and lastly a plate of two dessert things- one was a flour and egg mixture and one was a cookie thing with date syrup. Holy cow!!! Plus tea!!!
We had a great meal here.
My friend had asked two other mornings if I wanted to do breakfast and I had passed, now that I see what breakfast was, I regret those decisions!!
Breakfast was delicious and I think this might have been my favorite meal on the trip.
I also discovered Kurdish honey! I never really liked honey, but I ate all of my honey and all of my friend's honey! It wasn't overly sweet; it was incredibly addicting.
We made a pretty good dent in out food.
Check out these views!! Majestic!
"How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”
There was a path that if we wanted to hike, we could...I said I would pass, lol. The canyon was incredible though.
Noah could have been from this area...
- Noah lived in the region of Shinar both before and after the Flood (Genesis 11:2). Shinar refers to Mesopotamia, likely in modern-day Iraq.
I wonder if he was building the ark around here??
Just gorgeous!
10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
