I was super excited to go to Conakry Guinea and help teach English. One afternoon I had a tea class, Sub Rosa tea was kind enough to send me some extra tea to share with the students. There was no electricity in the area that day, but we used gas stove so I could still make tea.
I made a variety of flavors and let the students try them, The first thing EVERY student said was, "No sugar". I laughed and said nope. They were not expecting that, but were good sports and tried the green tea, oolong, peppermint, white, rooibos, and pineapple tea without sugar.
Other classes were going on, so we did not have a large crowd. But, the students who came in were asking others to try the tea and we had a lot of fun, There was a lot of laughter during the tea tasting, It was a great way to practice their English and share my love of tea.
It was a pleasure to have my new friends try the tea I brought. While sitting and talking I was able to get to know the students better. We talked about my job, their schooling, our faith, and a variety of other topics. Their English was really good. It was a great day!
I had really hoped to make Bubble Tea and share that with the students, but the night before when I went to make the tapioca balls and they turned to mush. I was disappointed that I was not able to share the experience of bubble tea with them- but sharing the tea I did share was a blast!!
