Apple Roses with tea
I saw this on line and I knew I wanted to recreate it.
I did some research and learned I needed a mandolin.
I cut the apple in half and sliced on the mandolin with the thinnest slicer.
Slice the apples, seeds and all.
Search and take out the seeds, after you slice the apples.
Stack the apples and cut in half.
My first few tries were EPIC fails. I could not figure out how to roll the apples.
They just kept breaking on me....
I then did some research and learned I needed to soak the apples in warm water. I put the apples in water and microwaved them for about 30 seconds. I did not have lemon juice, but if I had lemons I would have added juice to the water to keep the apples from turning brown.
I then laid out the apples, each one overlapping the other one a bit. Then I rolled them. I was AMAZED in the difference.
I then worked on how many apples to roll... how tight to make it... do I roll it in the cup or out...
These are things you should play around with yourself.
I discovered that if I rolled it a bit on the cutting board that I would get a nice start. Then I added apples around the roll.
I also found that it helped to lay apple slices in the cup to make the apple even fuller.
I really enjoyed watching the rose unfurl as the tea was added.
I went with a light green iced tea to pair with the apple rose.
Try it out and see what you think. It is super fun to play with teas like this.
