Sally Lunns Bunns in Bath as well as Sally Lunn Earl Grey Tea

While in Bath I had a few places on my list I wanted to see, one was of course the Jane Austen Regency Center.  The other was Sally Lunn Bunn Company.

Sally Lunn House is the oldest in Bath and dates back to 1680.  Solange Luyon was a Huguenot refugee from France who started the bakery.  Her name later became Sally Lunn.

This building is not only a bakery, but also a teahouse. On the top floor they do a Jane Austen inspired tea for £28.50 a person.

"A Sally Lunn is a large bun or teacake, a type of batter bread, made with a yeast dough including cream and eggs, similar to the sweet brioche breads of France. Sometimes served warm and sliced, with butter, it was first recorded in 1780 in the spa town of Bath in southwest England." Wikipedia

We walked into the basement of this tiny building, down some tight winding stairs, to this little shop.  To one side was the old bakery and to the other was the sales counter.

I bought some Sally Lunn Bunns...which is just so fun to say.  "Sally Lunns Bunns."

Jane Austen refers to Sally Lunns Bunns in the novel, Northanger Abbey.

I love these little alleyway shops.  It is all so quaint and charming.

Another charming tea room we passed by.

Bath is known for it's Roman Baths and Georgian architecture.  It takes less than two hours from London to get too.

The Avon River is behind me.

This was our fun group of ladies.

Here are the teas I bought while in England.
Tea from Sally Lunn's. Fortnum & Mason, Jane Austin - Bath, Highclere Castle, a Twining variety pack and Whittards.
I thought I restrained myself REALLY well while I was there.

The day after I returned from London, I put on the slippers from the hotel and made myself some Sally Lunn Earl Grey tea.  It was VERY good.

I added the milk with the milk pitcher I bought in Notting Hill.

Time to enjoy tea and my bunns at work.

I bought a pack of buns from Sally Lunns Buns.  I thought I was getting 4 buns...
However, it ended up being ONE GIANT BUN!!!

The Sally Lunn Bunn is like a light, sweet brioche bread.  Some enjoy it as a tea cake.  It is made with yeast, cream, and eggs.

I enjoyed my toasted Sally Lunn Bunn with the jam I brought back from England too.  It was super fun.  The bunn was light and fluffy.

I enjoyed the tea and the bunn.  I don't think I would have the bunn as a teacake, I do prefer the scone.  This was too much like a burger bun for me....a lightly sweet burger bun, but I prefer something with more substance.  I did enjoy it though!
The Earl Grey was great too.
