Oldest Tea House in England

On the way home from Bath we stopped by the oldest tea house in England!

I asked our drivers if they would mind driving this way home after our day in Bath and they said they would not mind.  I was thrilled.

This house in Windsor is from 1592  was torn down and rebuilt in 1687.  It was built with unseasoned green oak woof, it has since warped over time and tilt. It was renovated in 1718.

It is called the Crooked House of Windsor and is also known as the Market Cross House.  It is a small timber frame, 3 story building with stuccoed infilling.  Some say there is a secret passage to Windsor Castle which is less than a block away.

Researching this house they say it has been a butchers, a brewery, an antique store, a gift shop, a wine bar, a jewelry store and yes the tea house.

The Crooked House was not open.  It looks like it maybe a pub now.  I peered in the windows, but couldn't see much of anything.  I went around back and there was nothing to see there either.

On line it appears it is called The Shambles Bar and Bottle Shop.  I could not find any signage while I was there.

Across from the Crooked house.

Steps away from the Crooked House of Windsor is Windsor Castle, I had NO idea that they were that close.  What a fun pleasant surprise for sure!

Windsor Castle sits on 13 acres and is about an hour from London.

This was not what I expected for Windsor Castle....mixed right in among the shops.  Across the street where all kinds of shops and housing.  I expected this was out more in the country with no businesses close to it.

Very crazy to think of the hundreds of people who have lived here...like Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, Henry !, and so many other royals.

What an incredibly fun day with these ladies!!
