It is Saturday and this is the last afternoon tea...and I have to say it was my favorite, hands down!
We walked to Fortnum & Mason, it was about 20 minutes from our hotel, The Strand.
Fortnum & Mason was founded in 1707!
Hugh Mason started the store in 1705 from a spare room in his house. Then later he met William Fortnum and they joined forces.
For over 300 years the salon has been many things...an apartment for the Fortnum family, then an interior decorating store, then antiques and a restaurant, then in 2012 the late Majesty Queen Elizabeth opened the the tea room, and it was named after her as well, the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon.
These are flying cups...
This place was unbelievable. I really enjoyed my time here.
I was going to do some tea blending, but the time frame they had available did not work for me... I will do it next time.
I believe they did not start blending the day we were there until 11 or 11:30. Our lunch was at 11:30. And I believe it was around $40 US.
This place is amazing, so many floors of incredible items. I have to admit, most out of my price range. I bought a small cute tiny bag of truffles...it held two truffles and I wanted the bag to be an ornament on my tree. It is the blue gift bag that said Fortnum & Mason below.
These felt ornaments were 25£! I did not get one...the funny thing is I found one at Downton Abbey for 8£ and another fun different one at Kensington Palace for 10£.
My friends bought me the ornament on the right. It was incredibly thoughtful and I was blown away.
This advent calendar, my friends also bought me. I was speechless. It was almost $200 American dollars!!! Another reason I did not do the tea blending, lol.
I had so much fun opening it up. The tea steeper sells for almost $75 US dollars!! I have not used it yet...I may want to sell it, lol.
Here is my tree with my new ornaments. I also got a tea bag from each place I had tea to make an ornament out of it. It was fun inexpensive way to remember each place.
Chilling before our names are called.
What I was not aware of was that you could get a regular afternoon tea, a savory afternoon tea, a high tea, or a vegetarian afternoon tea and then spilt the items and get refills on any of the items.
This was High Tea...a few people did this one. Everything was the same, except this one came with one main entre.
The Savory Afternoon Tea.
I did this one, because I love the savory more than the sweet. Plus, I was able to try others food and we could order more of anything we wanted.
They also gave us to go boxes!!!
I did the Earl Grey Classic tea. I did Earl Grey every place to compare the teas.
The restaurant.
So excited!!!
This is the Savory Afternoon Tea.
You can see even the sweet top tray is more savory. One of them dishes was sitting on a baby crumpet!!!
Savory Pastries
Portland Crab Tart
Pork and Sage Sausage Roll
Smoked Trout and Herb Roulade
Silton and Walnut Cheesecake
Wild Mushroom Profiterole
Savory Scones
Roast Potato and Thyme
Goats Cheese and Chive
served with Marmite Cream Cheese and Red Onion Marmalade
Finger Sandwiches
Coronation Chicken
Cotswolds Legbar Egg Mayonnaise
Kames Bay Smoked Trout with Chive Cream Cheese
Suffolk Cured Ham and English Mustard
Cucumber with Lemon and Mint
These are two of the dishes from the High Tea menu, Truffles are being added to the Lobster Omelet. The other dish is the Beef Wellington.
The desserts everyone, but the savory afternoon tea received.
Clotted cream and jelly options.
Our Group, loving our lunch.
The Earl Grey tea here was VERY good. I was very pleased.
So many tiered trays!!
Marmite Cream Cheese and Red Onion Marmalade on my scones!
I enjoyed the Coronation Chicken so much, I asked for just one more...they brought me three!! I also asked for the dark chocolate with hazelnut praline
They also brought us fantastic macarons!!!
Pricey, but so worth it. And yes, you do pay for the water too.
We also put a down payment down to hold the table as well.
7 lunches for 683.83£, 85,47 £ a person, that is $114.61 a person in US dollars.
I loved this experience. If you can only afford one afternoon tea while in England, this is the one I recommend!!
Everything is elegant, even the stairwells.
Leaving Fortnum & Mason and heading to Mei Leaf.
The gals thought it was funny I matched the bus, lol.
Buses were such a fantastic way to get around town. I became a huge fan. We had the Oyster card and we just tapped as we entered the bus and off we went. You don't have to tap when you get off.
Feel free to contact me to lead you or your group in England.
I have a book you can order for the 7-day tour as well.
