Sleepy Bee Cafe- tea

While visiting friends in Cincy, we went to Sleepy Bee CafĂ© for brunch on Sunday.  Oh my, it was wonderful, just the quaint kind of place I love to visit.  The food is farm to table and soooo very good.

The tea they serve is Harney and Sons.  They let me choose from about 8 kinds of tea.

I had the omelet with toast and sweet potatoes.  Very delish!!!

    Teavana Berry Kiwi Colada

Hibiscus, hibiscus flowers, rose hips, candied pineapple pieces (pineapple, sugar, citric acid), candied mango pieces (mango, sugar, citric acid), carrot slices, tangerine pieces (tangerine, cane sugar, citric acid), coconut chips, apple slices, artificial flavoring, strawberry slices, lemon verbena.

Bold flavors of strawberry, kiwi, and prickly pear with sweet pineapple and mango
Loaded with the flavors of kiwi, prickly pear, mango, pineapple and strawberry with just a hint of creamy coconut, this tropical taste adventure creates the perfect getaway to your own personal paradise.
Bold flavors of strawberry, kiwi, and prickly pear with sweet pineapple and mango

This was my least favorite of the iced teas from the Teavana tea pack I purchased.  Not sure, maybe it was the kiwi, but it was too sweet.  I did it as an iced tea.  Maybe I will try it hot next time.  I try to give the teas I don't like two tries before I pass the tea along. Maybe the first time I did not steep it long enough or too long.  Or maybe I did not have the water enough, or maybe the water was too hurt and I burnt the leaves.  If after the second try I don't like the tea, then it goes to a friend to try :)

    Alice's Tea Cup Hawaiian Paradise

This one was a little tart for me.  I think I would like it as iced tea better.  Also, I think I will try again and just not steep it as long.
Remember- give tea a couple chances before you dismiss it right away.  Maybe you steeped it too long, or not long enough.  If it is tart- add sugar.  It's like people, your first impression might be wrong :)
I love love love to play around and try new teas!  You never know what you might get.

    From the website-
Since Alice's opened in 2001, it has been a destination in New York City for locals and tourists alike who crave a scrumptious afternoon tea without airs or pretension. Haley and Lauren Fox learned at an early age that tea was more than just a beverage--it was an event to be shared and protected. Alice's Tea Cup embodies the mantra "tea turned on its ear," serving up unique twists to traditional Victorian tea fare.

Making tea- Play with your tea!!!!

Don't forget to play with your tea!!! Making Iced tea is a great time to do this!!!!!  Mix flavors and see what you get.  If you are nervous to mix two bold flavors take a mint tea and mix it with a fun flavor.  Bigelow Plantation Mint is wonderful- it reminds me of the "ditch" tea my mom makes.  I was out of it, so I just used another peppermint tea.  It is a really good base for iced tea.

Summer is here, so I am playing with tea even more than usual.  I am making 6 gallons of iced tea today!!!

This was a fun one, Herbal Comfort from Alice's Tea Cup. I added one bag of Peppermint tea to this tea, since it I was making a smaller amount of iced tea.  This tea was not as good the second steeping time.  So, I would only make tea from this once, then start fresh with the next batch of tea.

Wild Orange Blossom was another one I liked.

I also added two peppermint tea bags with the loose leaf Teavana tea.

My mint tea this year is not doing well.  So, I took three mint tea bags and added lavender loose leaf tea.  This is my favorite.  And I do add a small amount of sugar to this iced tea.    I can run water through this twice before replacing the tea bags.

    The tea is steeping.

    Ready to go!!!

This is my frig- it will last me about a week!!!!!

    Wild Orange Blossom- Teavana

Okay, this is my favorite from the set of iced teas I got at the auction.  It is good with some sugar added, not much- just a little.  I steeped the tea just the way the back of the bag told me too.

Refreshing orange infusion with light floral undertones

A tribute to the plentiful citrus groves along the Indian River, this bright favorite blends orange slices and pretty rose petals.

Apple pieces, hibiscus flowers, rose hip peels, beetroot pieces, apple slices, citrus slices, citrus peels, natural flavoring, orange juice pieces, orange petals, rose petals

    Heartland Point Cafe in Orrville

I occasionally grab a chai from Heartland Point in Orrville.  It is really the only option we have in Orrville and they have a drive thru.  The chai is good.
I do really like their lunches too.  They have a nice variety and they personalize each order.  You have to plan on having extra time, because they are usually busy.  But, the food this good.  You can call ahead for the food or drinks :)

Having a sad day- my mom cheered me up with a chai from Heartland. :)

    Garden tea

It rained in the morning and then by 5:00 we were ready to move the tables out and set up.  It was perfect!!!  The Gardner (aka dad) and I moved the tables from the garage to the garden.

The queen made a stop in for the tea....she saw the flags were out!!!!!

    Teacup Tuesday

Enjoying some tea on Tuesday with the cup I got from Starbucks in Oregon. It reminds me of my sister out in the Pacific Northwest!!

Also enjoying these beautiful purple flowers that were delivered!  These were from the office where I work as a token of their sympathy that my aunt had passed away.  Aren't they gorgeous???
