I tried to make this day of tea to focus on Asian teas....5 of the 7 teas were Asian, so I felt that was a success. This stop was a Japanese Afternoon Tea Experience.
Stop 5 of 7 in NYC

I led a bus trip of 56 people to NYC this fall. This is my second leading of this bus trip. It is so much fun!
We leave my town in Ohio, at 10pm on a Friday night, drive all night.
Get dropped off in Chinatown around 6:30am. Everyone gets to do their own thing around New York until around 9pm.
We are picked up at 9pm at Bryant Park, drive all night and get dropped off in my town at 6am Sunday morning. All this for $185.00
I love the charter bus, red eye trip. I am leading one this March to DC for the Cherry Blossom Festival. This trip is only $165 per person.
Below is my tea map....I plan on stopping at least 9 tea shops in the 15 hours in NYC ( I did only make it to 7 cafes).

I walked from Te to Cha An. This was area was construction, but I found it with no problem.
Here I was meeting some gals I met in Cleveland in June. Yep, random strangers I met while enjoying tea in Burton Ohio!!!
While having afternoon in Burton I was in a room with my friend and there was only one other occupied table at the time. We were both waiting for food. We got to talking and I shared my business card. Here they were from Columbus and loved tea too.
We became Facebook friends and they signed up for this NYC trip. One gal has even signed up for the DC bus trip and the Charleston Tea trip too.
It just shows you, you never know who you will meet when you reach out to someone.
When you enter the tea house, you can stay on the main floor and order tea, or you can go up the stairs for afternoon tea.
Afternoon tea does require reservations.
And it is not cheap, but keep in mind it was an experience. It was $68 plus tax.
We signed up for the Autumn Afternoon Tea.

Tea was served in a nice size room. You didn't feel like you were right on top of the person next to you. Everything was clean and well done.
I ordered the Hoji-cha w/ Osmanthus. I admit I thought it would be more of a display with serving the tea. There was nothing ceremonial about it.
The tea came in a bag and nothing was mentioned about taking the tea bag out after 3 minutes...thankfully I knew to do it.
I did have the water refilled a few times, the tea was very nice.
Hoji-cha is a roasted green tea. Osmanthus a flower.
The tea had caramel nutty notes.
Round One:
Egg Salad
Smoked Salmon Sushi
Daigaku Imo
I have to say round one was my favorite. I prefer the savory and what was to come next was a little too sweet for me. But I love the uniqueness of it all. I had to remind myself this was a Japanese tea! This was not something I would see in a typical English tea.
Egg Salad
Smoked Salmon Sushi
Daigaku Imo (candied sweet potatoes)
Round Two:
White Sesame Blancmange
I enjoyed this, it reminded me of a flan. It was not overly sweet.
Round Three came in these incredible looking boxes:
Drawer one- Berry Custard Cream Puff and Montblanc Cake
Drawer two-Sweet Potato Dangp, Apple Agar Jelly, Chestnut Daifuku
Drawer three- Sakura Cookie, Ube Meringue, Mochi Chocolate Chip Cookie

Here I am with my new friends!!! We enjoyed this tea together and then would meet up again for tea #7 in a few hours for a Thai Tea experience.
The food was beautiful!!!
I admit, I left hungry, lol. I could get seconds, but it was $5 per item.
Okay, here is your silly little extra fact....
The gals said you need to try the bathroom! I went in and there was a remote for the toilet. You could hear the seat, lol!
This was a fun experience. It would not be one I would probably do again, but I they did a nice job. The food was good, fun, and unique. I would have like a little more ceremonial with the tea, because it was definitely about the food.
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
