Ah, what to say about this tea experience!!! My friend, Yeng, and I were setting out for an adventure in Penang. We had the afternoon off. I found two tea places we could visit one afternoon. We took a Grab (a Grab is like the US Uber) and headed into Chinatown in Georgetown and Penang.
Both places were closed. So we decided to head to the mall and find a tea shop there.
China town in Malaysia
I loved that there were Grabs all over. I would pay to go into Georgetown and then Yeng paid the trip back. It worked perfectly. Travel was super easy and I felt very safe!!! All Grabs had AC and the drivers all spoke very good English. Extra bonus is that Grabs were half the price of taxi's.

Another tea place...closed
Here we are at the Gurney Paragon Mall-
On the lower level of the mall was this tea shop where we could sit and drink tea

Very fun and interesting looking from the outside, it was calling me to come in.
I decided to try the 5 Flower Tea. I knew nothing about this Chinese tea. But, Yeng did. She said that her parents drank tea like this when she was a kid. The taste was something else!!! And not in a good way.
Five Flowers Tea (五花茶 ) The main floral ingredients are honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, silk cotton, Plumeria rubra and Pueraria lobata. This beverage can clear heat and expel dampness and anti-inflammation, which helps to alleviate symptoms like fatigue, sore throat, indigestion, poor appetite, insomnia and urinary difficulty.
Posing for a photo, a little nervous to try it.
I tried it and I have to say I hated it. We had some good laughs about trying it.
It was way to bitter and super sweet, neither of us liked what we bought! Yeng said that the bitterness and tree-tastes reminder of when she was a kid.
Yeng did teach me how to hold the cup. Putting my pinky on the bottom of the cup.
Oh so bad tasting!!!!
